What is the coolest psychological trick?

  1. If you forget someone's name in a social gathering, introduce them to someone you know. They will automatically say their name, and you can capture it.
  2. Refer to people by their name. People loving being referred to by their name, and it will establish a sense of trust and friendship right away.
    1. Say your friend introduced you to Peter. After 5 minutes he decides to leave. Don't just say, "bye", but instead say "Bye Peter!"
  3. When a group of people laugh, people will instinctively look at the person they feel closest to in that group.
  4. If you ask someone a question and they only partially answer just wait. If you stay silent and keep eye contact they will usually continue talking.
  5. If you get yourself to be really happy and excited to see other people, they will react the same to you. It doesn't always happen the first time, but it will definitely happen next time.
  6. Chew gum when you're nervous like public speaking or bungee jumping. If we are 'eating' something in our brains trip and it reasons 'I would not be eating if I were in danger. So I'm not in danger'.
  7. When people are angry at me; if I stay calm it'll get them even angrier, and be ashamed about it after.
  8. On a first date, take them somewhere exciting that will get their heart beating. e.g. roller coaster or horror film. This gets their adrenaline up. It makes them think they enjoy spending time with you rather than the activity.
  9. If you ask someone to do you a small favour, cognitive dissonance will make them believe that because they did that favour, they, therefore, they must like you.
  10. Stand up straight, no slouching, hands out of pockets, and head held up high. It's not just a cliche - you actually feel better and people around you feel more confident in you.
  11. Avoid saying "I think," and "I believe" unless absolutely necessary. These are phrases that do not evoke confidence, and will literally do you no good.
  12. When playing a game of cards, mutter to yourself the exact opposite of what you want to happen. An overwhelming amount of times, the opponent will fall for the bait.
  13. If you want to stare at someone unashamedly, look directly past them and wait for them to try and meet your eyes. When they fail to do that, they'll look around and won't look at you again for some time. This is your chance to straight up stare at this person for at least 45 seconds.
  14. You know how a joke ceases to be funny when you have to repeat it? Well use that to your benefit; if that asshole in the group is making jokes at your expense, act like you can't hear him and ask him to repeat it like 3 times. By the time he says it a 3rd or 4th time, no ones laughing.
  15. Always give people a choice that makes them think they are in control. For instance, when if you want a kid to put his shoes on say, "do you want to put your star wars shoes on or your shark shoes on?"
  16. If you want to gain someone's trust quickly, match their body posture and position. If someone is sitting with her legs crossed cross your legs. Mirroring and matching body position is a subconscious way to tell if someone trusts you or is comfortable with you
  17. People mostly remember the first and last things to occur, and barely the middle. When scheduling an interview, ask what times the employer is interviewing and try to be first or last.
  18. If you really want something from someone, frame it as an offer rather than a request.
  19. You can judge the character of a person by how they treat people who can do absolutely nothing for them.
  20. If you're asking for a favour, always use the word 'because'. It makes them more likely to comply

How do I control my mind?

I am someone who gets distracted pretty easily and have constant thoughts running in my mind. Well to put things simple, I had troubles in keeping my mind at ease. I was advised try meditation and believe me I did. But for meditation you need to have patience and a calmer mind at the beginning. I struggled in controlling my incessant troubling thoughts.
One way by which I control my mind is by doing yoga. I cannot emphasis how beneficial it has proven for me. Everyday 20 minutes of yoga has made me much more calmer & sought. It also gives peace of mind. I can focus on one thing more attentively rather than getting distracted and losing my focus.
At one point of time I was extremely a negative and pessimistic sort of person, always having thoughts which could degrade my thinking process. But then I stopped fretting about unnecessary thoughts which occupied most of my time and space. I tried channeling things which seemed it might have a positive outlook towards life. From glass half empty to glass half filled. Even if things don’t work out, I always see with hopes that things will revert back to better some day. This way, my mind is free of boggling thoughts and I control it to my whims & moods.
And lastly try to focus your mind, heart and energy into something you love or passionate about. May be painting or polishing your gaming skills or improve your cooking skills. That way mind is focused into doing something whole heartedly and it’s not wandered off by petty things. For me it is either cooking or my vocation cause I need to be careful, cautious and agile at that moment. Like they say we are the Captain of our own ships therefore why not Captain of our own thoughts?

Psychology and mind tricks?

When I read the answers, I realize that most of the tricks here are about interpersonal relation, i.e. how to influence someone else.
What about influencing yourself ?
I will give you 5 tricks that you can experiment on yourself.
  1. Feeling angry ? Don’t express, rather explain out loud.
This is a Buddhist saying. And it is absolutely true. Whenever you feel anger, don’t express it outwardly. Otherwise, you well appear irrational (or “emotional”).
Instead of getting mad for an external circumstance, try to explain to someone why you feel mad.
For example when you drive, if someone cuts you off ; tell your partner that this other car is changing the way you behave. Explain what you should emotionally feel as a reaction.
In a more general way, you can become calm if you start explaining all the feelings that you feel at a particular time.
  2. Struggling to fall asleep because of disturbing thoughts ? Tell yourself a story
Try to fall asleep with running ideas about your everyday duties. It’s simply impossible.
Your mind is only asking to make a hiatus after a hard-working day.
I have an efficient way to make an abstraction of your day : Tell yourself a story. Focus all your thoughts on this story. Give yourself a fictional goal that you have to follow. Use your everyday acquaintances as characters in your story.
To go further, I would advise you to keep the story up, night by night, just like a series. It would increase your ability to stick to this new habit.
  3. Getting mentally destroyed by a breakup ? Focus on negative sides
A breakup is never joyful. People might hide it or not, but not so many people extract themselves from a breakup without emotional injury.
And yet, this is a normal part of life. You need to learn to live with it.
But there is one simple way to cope with a breakup : Make a list of all the negative sides of your ex-partner. Reverse the nostalgic feeling, start to feel some anger against your partner. From there, you will be able to move on quite quickly.
  4. Want to become a better version of yourself ? There is only one way you can
Do you want to become “better” ? If you want to become someone different, you just can’t. You can’t be someone else. So how could you become better?
By becoming closer to who you are. By becoming your true self.
By staying authentic, you will increase the qualities that are innate to you. A fish is born like a fish ; it will outperform a duck at swimming, but not at flying.
A good way to know who you are, is to try personality assessment tests. My favorite one is the MBTI assessment[1].
  5. Lack of motivation over an important task ? Use your mirror neurons
Put yourself in the same room as someone doing the same task.
Do you need to make some phone calls ? Find someone else to do it together.
Do you need to revise for your upcoming exam ? Do it with some classmates.
Your neuron mirrors will observe these people. You will simply shape your own motivations according to theirs.
A good way to complete your tasks !

How can I control my subconscious mind?

A quick Fact - Your subconscious mind is always working. While you are awake or while you are asleep.
Now, I ask you do you know how to drive a car? Yes, but when you started you needed to learn how a car is driven. How it works. The gears, the brakes, the clutch and then you started practicing and soon learnt to drive a car.
So, the first question is, How does subconscious mind work?
Repetition of any thoughts/determination/activities trains / teaches your subconscious mind. Basically subconscious works on repetition and habits. Self Talk and action also play a major role in making subconscious beliefs.
How can you control your subconscious mind?
Every morning, millions of people struggle to wake up at whatever time they setup. The snooze button on the alarm is pushed multiple times and it begs you to wake up.
So, first we wake up and then we get up. Waking up is hearing that sound and getting up is getting out of the bed.
But between that waking up and getting up is what world war 3 happens. That instance mind supplies you with a lot of ideas, for example you are tired, you went to sleep late, you need rest.
But can you realise your mind is playing games with you? Yes, with you itself. You decide the previous day that you will get up and then you don’t. But, you must decide the time and then you should conquer that gap. This is most important.
Understand what is happening to you. You are enjoying freedom without discipline. Without discipline, freedom is dangerous. When water is flowing in the banks, it nourishes everything. But when water moves out, it is called floods and it is destructive. When the kite is flying with discipline tied to the thread, there is value to the kite. The moment the thread is gone, kite is just a piece of paper , it is not a kite anymore.
Freedom without discipline is disastrous. So, when you decide to wake up at 7 o'clock and do not wake up, at the outset it seems nothing is happening but inside tremendous damage is happening.
So, when you set a goal saying that I will build a 100 million organization, your own mind doubts you. Potential is there. We all can live a legendary life.
But your own mind doubts you. How? Mind says if you can’t even get up at 7 o'clock, when you decide to do it, how you will achieve 100 millions?
Mind is asking you, if you can’t even control what you can control how you are going to achieve things which are beyond your control?
If the enemy is outside, you can be helped but if the enemy is inside, how can you be helped?
So when your mind starts doubting you, and it doubts you, when you say you will arrive at a meeting by 10 am and do not reach the meeting place at that time, it doubts you. When you cannot wake up the desired time, it doubts you. And over a period of time we build a lot of subconscious doubt and over time so much subconscious doubts we have built. Now, when you want to achieve something big in life, even if everybody around you believes you can, but when your own subconscious has doubted you, even god cannot help you.
But when your subconscious is supporting you, even god cannot stop you from achieving what you want to achieve in life.
You have to build the subconscious belief by making a commitment and honoring a commitment. By making a promise and living by a promise, your subconscious starts taking you seriously.
If you told your parents tomorrow morning to take them to the temple, you must take them to the temple, no matter what happens. You made a commitment, you must honor the commitment.
When you live through this approach for 1 year, your subscious belief goes up.
From tomorrow morning, decide the time to wake up and get up. No matter what. Conquer that gap. Crawl but get up. In some days you will realise your own subconscious belief is believing in yourself and it will be stunning.
Small changes make a huge change over time. Begin from where you can begin.
Honor commitment you make. Small changes, held long enough, become momentous transformations.

What is the coolest psychological trick?

Whenever you are meeting someone new, do you want to feel appreciated and respected within the first 10 minutes ?
Here is a list of 6 cool psychological tricks.
Do them when you face someone.
They work whether you are talking to your new classmate, your crush, your prospect, your favorite singer, etc.
  1. Mirror their words and their body
People carry their own set of vocabulary. It will differ from yours. But you will earn their trust if you reuse some words they use.
Same as words, people might have a different body gesture than yours. Try to subtly copy some of theirs.
  2. Rephrase them
The first meeting can be difficult in terms of understanding each other. I know it very well, I’m deaf (impaired). If you rephrase their sentence (and especially their questions) with words that are closer to yours ; you will show an appreciable effort of understanding.
  3. Be happy with their presence
Maybe there is something from the person that brings you happiness. Think about it. If you subtly show that the person is bringing a positive presence, it will be felt.
  4. Have a lower pitch for your voice tone
Conversing is a game of authority. With stress, you will tend to show some weak signs. One of them is a high voice pitch. Think about the servant talking to their master… You would sound like them.
On the contrary, if you adopt a lower pitch, you would rather sound like a wise person talking to their followers.
  5. Shut up and listen
New people don’t care about your story at first (unless they identify themselves in it). Just shut up and listen to people. Ask them questions. Show interest in their topic. Not only you will appear more likable, but also you will get more information about the other person, and you will earn a better authority.
  6. “I don’t need you”
Don’t say this out loud. But it’s good that you think it while smiling.
Think about the following idea : Whenever someone unknown is needy to you, your first instinct is to step away from them.
If the person’s interest slips away from your hand, you should be prepared to accept that outcome.
